Draft 2025 FNQ Regional Plan

State Planning Regulatory Provisions (Regional Plans)

On 9th May 2008 the Draft 2025 FNQ Regional plan was released and a Public Consultation period commenced. Simultaneously, the State Planning Regulatory Provisions (Regional Plans) came into effect the same day, even though they are still “Draft”.

These regulations enforced a prohibition on certain planning actions effective immediately. There was no prior warning of this.

The most controversial aspects of the prohibition are:

1. A minimum area for subdivisions in rural areas was set at 60ha,
2. No boundary realignments whatsoever are allowed
3. No further areas of land to be rezoned to Rural Residential
4. An increase in population densities within the Urban Footprint

The Draft Plan and Regulations cover the Cassowary Coast Regional Council, the Tableland Regional Council and the Cairns Regional Council and override the Planning Schemes of these three Local Authorities.

If you are a landowner in this area, you should download a copy of the Plan and Regulations and familiarise yourself with it’s contents as soon as possible.

You are strongly urged to :

1. Sign the Petition to the Queensland Government
2. Complete and lodge a submission to the Department of Infrastructure and Planning
